Record breaking monsoon rains have killed hundreds of people. Officials now say up to 20 million are affected - more than the Asian tsunami and Haiti earthquake combined. Zhouqu landslide, China

The town of Zhouqu in Province Gansu in northwest China, has been hit by a devastating landslide. The death toll is 1254 with 490 people still missing. Many thousands have been left homeless and with more rains forecast there are fears of more mudslides. Haiti still recovering

While much still needs to be down to help the people of Haiti recover and rebuild, the big achievement is the things that haven't happened - no political riots, no major food crisis, and no major outbreak of major diseases.
