Christian World Service has prepared worship resources “Whoever Welcomes You, Welcomes Me” for Refugee Sunday on 2 July in the Anglican lectionary.
CWS is asking churches to remember refugees and displaced people in their prayers this Sunday, 2 July.
The resources highlight the plight of more than 5 million refugees from Syria in neighbouring countries and include a video clip of high school aged students now in Lebanon benefitting from DSPR Lebanon’s educational activities.

CWS is appealing for donations for the work of our longest partner, the Department of Service to Palestinian Refugees in Jordan and Lebanon.
For more than six years, they have provided support to Syrian refugees alongside Palestinians. They provide food rations and cash assistance, free medical days, education and forums for children, income and health training programmes for mothers, and psychosocial support.
A leaflet is available for churches wanting to support the appeal.
Last week more than 130 people spent five days living on refugee rations as part of Operation Refugee. So far, they have raised more than $50,000 for Syrian refugees. The four-member team from Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral have already raised $3,800, but need $152 to meet their goal. You are welcome to support their great effort.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee agency, released new refugee figures last week. In 2016, 65.6 million people were of concern, up 300,000 from 2015. 51% were children and 80% were residing in developing countries.
CWS is supporting the campaign to Double the Quota and is grateful for New Zealand churches and others helping to resettle refugees in Aotearoa New Zealand.
