Coastal communities plant mangroves to stop erosion and protect their livelihoods in the Aklan Province of the Philippines. Photo: Developers
The residents of Tabon Island want to restore mangroves to their coastline to protect buildings, land and trees from the Sibuyan Sea. The mangroves will act as a buffer and provide a habitat for sea life. New trees will sequester carbon from the atmosphere. One mangrove can offset an estimated 0.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide over its life span.
Your donation will fund local people to prepare the area, plant 6,000 propagules on 4 hectares and monitor the planting site for one year.
