Helping to unburden people from the injustice of poverty
Our Partner MONLAR (the Movement for Land and Agricultural Reform) has made food the central focus of its work. By connecting farmers, labourers, agricultural experts, academics and activists. MONLAR is planting the seeds for an economy that is more sustainable and respectful of life. It promotes regenerative and non-chemical approaches applied to multi-cropping and empowering farmers (especially women).
MONLAR run model farms and field schools, teaching sustainable farming methods that grow more pest resistant and weather resilient crops. Due to the ongoing environmental issues Sri Lanka faces every crop counts.
MONLAR promotes sustainable agricultural practices which help in reducing the negative environmental impacts of conventional farming methods. This includes advocating for agroecology and organic farming, which improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, and reduce reliance on chemical inputs.
Prior to MONLAR developing the farm co-operatives they operate in Sri Lanka, many small scale one person peasant tea pickers where only receiving 1 cent per dollar of the eventual sale price of the tea they picked.
Our International Partners support community-led initiatives, they are providing aid and development and help to unburden people from the injustice of poverty.
A Quantum Step Out of Poverty and Injustice
With the intervention and assistance of the MONLAR on the ground, tea pickers in Sri Lanka are on their way to receiving 3 cents in the dollar for their labour.
1% growing to 3% is a massive increase of income. For small-scale farmers it translates to significantly better access to water and sanitation, health care, quality and security of food and education for themselves and their families.
A quantum step out of poverty and injustice.
