Regions in Ethiopia are at risk of famine as a long dry spell threatens water supplies, crop growth and the health of livestock.

An estimated 4.6 million people need food aid, in addition to 8 million already receiving support. The near failure of recent rainy seasons has caused severe shortage of pasture and water and led to the death of livestock. In these areas, people are 50-100% dependent on local produce for their food supplies. What little food remains is too expensive to purchase.
