Interim National Director

Are you ready to bring your leadership and management expertise to an organisation working for a world free from poverty and injustice? Do you thrive on building peaceful, inclusive partnerships and guiding international development that delivers real, life changing impact? If you’re passionate about standing with vulnerable communities and leading work that makes a tangible difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Christian World Service (CWS) is seeking an energetic, strategic Interim National Director to steward our small, dynamic organisation through an important transition period, ahead of appointing a permanent National Director. This is a unique opportunity to shape the next chapter of our respected, values driven agency committed to justice, dignity, and long term community led development.

For up to one year, you will play a pivotal role in how CWS works on behalf of our partner churches and donors to address overseas poverty and injustice, support development programmes with vulnerable communities (particularly in the Pacific), respond to natural disasters, and strengthen movements for positive social change.
We are looking for an interim leader who brings:

  • A strong commitment and understanding of global justice and humanitarian values
  • Proven organisational leadership experience
  • Skill in managing people, finances, and operational systems
  • Understanding of fundraising and donor engagement
  • The ability to relate the Christian gospel to the mission and work of CWS
  • Excellent communication skills across faith based and secular audiences

Experience in marketing or fundraising communications would be an advantage.

If you’re seeking an opportunity to make a lasting difference for some of the poorest and most marginalised people in our world, this role offers a meaningful and rewarding challenge. CWS is an inclusive workplace, welcoming applications from people across all sections of the community.

While the CWS office is based in Christchurch, this position could be operated remotely for the right applicant and would involve internal travel. This interim position is part time 20 hours per week.

A job description and further information can be obtained from Italy Cooper, Administrator, via: cws@cws.org.nz. Applications are due by 5pm on Friday 18th September 2026.
