China earthquake
On May 12 an earthquake of magnitude 7.9 struck the Sichuan region in central China. The death toll is already 35,000 with the Chinese government estimating it could reach 50,000. Nearly 250,000 people were injured and 4.8 million left homeless. In some areas, 80% of all buildings collapsed. CWS partner, Amity Foundation, is providing food, water and shelter to survivors and has an appeal for long term rebuilding of communities.
